Writing an Article

Crispypoker comes with some useful shortcodes and articles that makes it easy to form easy to read Articles.

Headings

While writing a post or an article , we need to highlight the headings of topic. There are several ways to do it.
- If you want to write a short cover text for whole article, you can use ‘cover’ shortcode. (Click here to see usage of typography shortcodes).
- If you want to write subheading for the cover , you can use ‘intro’ shortcode.
- You can also use a title class to create a heading. For example :
<h1 class=title>Page heading here</h1>
Above line will create a heading in uppercases with an underline , just like you can see below.
<h1 class=title>Page heading here</h1>

Other Tips:

- If you have used column shortcodes or displayposts shortcodes. You might need to clear the appearance to prevent overlapping. You can do it by writing:
<div class=”clear”></div>
- If you want to give extra line break while writing article , you can write.
<div class=”blankspace”></div>

Here is the list of questions that most of the people ask. Please keep checking this page more often , it gets updated regularly.

For some reason , images are not appearing?

Ans: Crispypoker uses timthumb script for creating image thumbnails. If images are not appearing , then something must be wrong with timthumb. Make sure you have create ‘cache’ folder in theme-folder/library/timthumb and CHMOD it 777.
If it still doesnt work , try opening the image url directly in the browser. This way you can make sure if timthumb is not working at all , if it doesnt , contact your hosting provider.

I copied code from your example for shortcode , but its not working?

Ans: Sometimes , when you copy the code from the example page , it also includes a character that prevents shortcode from executing.
To make this work , please paste the code to notepad first , you will find a dash ‘-’ before after the opening bracket , remove it and then paste in the post.
This will be taken care of in coming versions.

NivoSlider Settings

Crispypoker uses NivoSlider for slider on pages.
For easy use of slider , I have created a shortcode for NivoSlider.
You can call Slider on any page of post by writing the below shortcode.

[nivoslider]

If you do not pass any parameter , it will slide your latest 5 posts. It will grab featured posts attached to those posts. If no featured post is found , it will display a blank image.
You can customize the slider to suit your needs.

Parameters for sliders are

category
Default : null (grabs latest posts)
you can provide name or category of id you want post’s images to come from.
for example: if you want posts from Design category in the slider , you would write.
[nivoslider category=design]
numposts
Default : 5 (shows 5 slides)
you can provide number of slides you want in the slider.
for example: if you want 7 slides(Posts images) from design category, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design numposts=7]
imgwidth
Default : 910 (full width container)
you can define width of image by this parameter , it would also apply on slider container.
It is programmed in such a way that it automatically fits on Full width page template and on Default page template (with sidebar).
for example: if you want slider width of 300 , you would write.
[nivoslider category=design imgwidth=300]
imgheight
Default : 300
you can define height of image by this parameter.
for example: if you want slider height of 200 , you would write.
[nivoslider category=design imgwidth=200]
effect
Default : fold
you can set the slider transition effect by using this parameter.
Possible values are :
-fold
-fade
-sliceDown
-random
for example: if you want slider with fade effect, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design effect=fade]
pause
Default : 5000
you can set pause time of slides by using this parameter. This value is in milliseconds , so if you write 10000 , that would mean 10 seconds hold time for the slides.
for example: if you want slide to hold for 4 seconds, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design pause=7000]
Speed
Default : 800
Same thing as the Pause parameter , this parameter is for speed of transition of the slide.
for example: if you want slides to transit slowly, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design speed=1200]
zoomcrop
Default : center
This parameter sets the rule for cropping the image used as slide (timthumb).
Possible values are :
-top
-bottom
-center
-right
for example: if you want top area of image to be shown in the slide, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design zoomcrop=top]
showcaption
Default : true
This parameter can be used to show or hide the captions shown in slider.
Possible values are :
-true
-false
for example: if you do not want the captions, you would write.
[nivoslider category=design showcaption=false]

Setting up the theme

Crispypoker theme is very very easy to setup. You can setup it within 10 minutes.
Instructions for setting it up are given below after you buy the theme and download it.

CrispypokerSetup instructions

Unzip crispypoker theme folder
Upload the crispypoker folder to <wordpress directory>/wp-content/themes (You can also upload the theme from wordpress admin panel by going to Wp-admin->Appearance->Install Themes. Upload crispypoker.zip, not the whole zip)
Activate the theme.
Go to Appearance->Crispypoker Settings, and setup the theme as per your requirements. These options are very easy to understand and I have written basic introduction about them on the page.
If you want to start with some test data, you can download prebuilt posts/pages as seen in the demo website by contacting us. .
Go to Media and setup Thumb size as 150×150
Create a folder called ‘cache’ in
/library/timthumb/ and CHMOD it 777. (If you don’t know how to , please contact your hosting provider.)
Go to Appearance-> Widgets and activate some widgets.

Page Templates of Crispypoker

Crispypoker wordpress theme comes with 6 custom page template and 1 modified Archive page template.
The 6 custom widgets are:
- ‘Blog’ page template
- ‘Review Archive’ page template
- ‘No Left Sidebar’ page template
- ‘No Right Sidebar’ page template
- ‘Full width’ template
- ‘Sitemap’ template

Description for each page template is given below.

‘Blog’ page template

By default, wordpress comes with an Archive page template. This archive page template can be used to display posts from given category.
The ‘Blog’ page template extends the flexibility of default category archive page.
Benefit of using this page template is its added flexibility as its a “page”. (for example : you can add slider , cover images , cover text , Ads).
To use this page template , create a new page , select Page template as “Blog”.
You need to create a custom field called “category” and enter name or id of the category in this custom field.
You can enter any image or text in the Page’s editor. This will be displayed above the listing of the posts.

‘Review Archive‘ page template

This template shows list of reviews custom post types.

‘No Left Sidebar’ page template

As the name says itself, you can use this page template when you don’t want left sidebar.
In other words, This page template removes the left bar and extends the width of content area in the left side.

In other words, This page template removes right left bar and extends the width of content area in the right side.

Introduction of 2 Custom Widgets

Crispypoker comes with 2 custom widgets.

1) CP Top Rooms Widget:

This widget grabs the “Reviews” custom post types from the category that you can set inside the widget.

Options of this Widget are:
Title : This is title of the widget that will appear on front end.
Category : If you select ‘review’ category , ‘review custom post types’ will be fetched from this category only. If none, then recent posts will be fetched regardless of category.
Thumb Width: You can set width of the thumbnail. Default is 50. (no need to include px)
Thumb Height: You can set width of the thumbnail. Default is 50. (no need to include px)
No of Posts : You can set the number of posts you want to be fetched. Default : 5

2) MC Popular Posts Widget:

This widget grabs the popular posts. It counts popularity of posts by comments posted on it(in future will be modified to count views).

Options of this Widget are:
Title : This is title of the widget that will appear on front end.
No of Posts : You can set the number of posts you want to be fetched.
Thumb Width: You can set width of the thumbnail. Default is 50. (no need to include px)
Thumb Height: You can set width of the thumbnail. Default is 50. (no need to include px)
Show Content: Check it if you want post content to appear in the widget. Default : checked
Content Length: Number of words to be shown from post content. Default : 5
